Devon Matthews Romance Author ~The Westerns...  From my earliest memories, I've been fascinated with all things western. There's just something wildly romantic about the Old West. During the sixties, we had a steady diet of westerns on tv and at the movies. Great stuff. It was the last untamed era in this country and, in many places, each man was the law unto himself.  My first cases of hero worship were aimed at Audie Murphy and John Wayne and --I admit it-- I never got past them.  I read everything I could find by Zane Grey (that man was a true romantic at heart) and Louis Lamour. Later, I fell in love with Elmer Kelton's beautiful style of prose. In the early eighties, I stumbled across my first western historical romance--and I was hooked. I'd found the best of both worlds. Great westerns and steamy romance, all rolled into one.  It seemed only natural that when I began to seriously look at writing, I turned to my favorite genre--the western historical. As a young woman, I traveled much of the southwest and saw the breathtaking vistas that had inspired me with such awe in the old western movies from my childhood. I lived in Texas for several years and loved it, but now I'm back home in the foothills of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains with my husband and two children.  My son (my baby, but don't tell him I called him that) just graduated high school and is currently working full time. What an adjustment that's been!  For the past twenty-nine years I've been a stay-at-home mom with my daughter (my eldest), who was born with Angelman's syndrome.  Although I no longer venture far from home, my passion for the west and those dashing sagebrush heroes remains as strong as ever. While I've never thought of myself as a romantic, I suppose I always have been. And I've always been a dreamer. Sometimes I dream that my daughter can walk and speak to me. Since I don't have the power to make that happen, I take fate into my hands in the only way I can~~I write. In my world of books, goodness and right always prevail. The bad guys always get exactly what they deserve. Love conquers all and heals all wounds. I write because I can't remember a time in my life when I didn't, and a happy ending is always guaranteed. I hope you enjoy reading about my heroes and heroines of the Old West as much as I loved writing about them.
